1000 Books Before Kindergarten
The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Reading Challenge encourages families and caregivers to read 1,000 books with their little ones, age 0-6, before they start Kindergarten. Why? In order to spend time together while instilling a lifelong love of reading and also building their literacy skills and vocabulary.
How does the program work?
- Participate by using paper reading logs available at the Library’s front desk or by printing them off the Library’s website. You can also participate online using a Beanstack account. Go to www.tomahawk.lib.wi.us.
- Each time you read a book together, record it on your paper reading log or in your Beanstack account. Any book counts, even the same one over and over!
- When a paper reading log is completed, return it and pick up another one.
- Get to 500 books and receive a reward for reaching the half-way milestone. Read 1,000 books and receive a completion certificate and book bag. Fun fact – reading three books each day will get you to 1,095 books in only one year! SPONSORED BY THE FRIENDS OF THE TOMAHAWK PUBLIC LIBRARY
